Cianjur, West Java (ANTARA) - A joint search and rescue team, on Thursday, continued its efforts to look for 40 people, who are still missing following an earthquake that hit Cianjur District, West Java, on Monday, Nov 21.

On the fourth day following the disaster, search efforts were focused at the two locations of Cijedil Village and Warung Sate Sinta area, both in Cugenang Sub-district, Head of the Bandung SAR Office Jumaril noted.

Based on data from the main command post, the 5.6-magnitude earthquake claimed 271 lives and injured 2,043 people.

The earthquake also damaged 2,345 buildings, two bridges, and roads. It also triggered landslides that blocked several roads.

The search efforts in Cijedil Village were made in two shifts. The first shift involved 147 personnel in addition to four life detector personnel, while the second shift was carried out by 149 personnel in addition to four sniffer dogs.

Meanwhile, Jumaril noted that in the Warung Sate Sinta area, search efforts were also divided into two shifts. The first shift was carried out by 153 personnel in addition to five sniffer dogs, while the second shift was carried out by 157 personnel along with four life detector personnel.

Moreover, 264 personnel were deployed to 12 sub-districts to search and ensure that there were no other victims in need of evacuation.

"If a victim is found, then he will be evacuated to the Cianjur Regional Hospital using an ambulance from the village," he noted.
