Teachers that continue to 'inject' the spirit to innovate in the learning process will produce creative students who can work positively, especially with the Independent Curriculum that opens a space for teachers to explore their creative ideas.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Teachers' Day 2022 commemoration is a momentum for teachers to continue to model innovation for students, according to the deputy head of Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR), Hetifah Sjaifudian.

"Teachers that continue to 'inject' the spirit to innovate in the learning process will produce creative students who can work positively, especially with the Independent Curriculum that opens a space for teachers to explore their creative ideas," she said here on Friday.

She expressed appreciation for teachers who have become role models in the country.

Sjaifudian then quoted notable education figure, Ki Hajar Dewantara, and said that the teachers' role at the front is to set an example, in the middle is to build willpower, and at the back is to provide moral support.

"(I would like to convey my) appreciation for teachers who have not only provided knowledge but have also become role models of moral, ethical, and character excellence for students," she remarked.

She also touched upon cases of sexual violence, bullying, and intolerance, which are increasingly becoming widespread in the world of education.

The legislator noted that the recurrence of the three issues has shown that Indonesian students are facing a moral and ethical emergency.

"Apart from setting a good example for students, teachers must ensure that students have good manners in the school environment. Teachers are protectors and guides for students," she said.

There are many Indonesian teachers who teach in remote areas with inadequate facilities and funds, she noted. According to her, those teachers are real heroes and role models.

However, she said that it has also become a big "homework" for the state that it has not been able to ensure the fulfillment of teachers' rights and welfare.
