When their implementation as mandatory standards begin, our green industry standards will have complied with the global standards.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry is conducting a study to make green industry standards (SIH) mandatory in three industrial sectors in 2023.

Head for the Green Industry Center of the Industrial Services Policy and Standardization Agency at the ministry Herman Supriadi said here on Friday that the results of the study would be conveyed and discussed with the stakeholders next year.

The implementation of the mandatory standards is aimed at achieving various incentives, which are also being compiled currently, he informed.

By implementing the green standards, the operational costs will be reduced, he pointed out.

“If the (operational) cost is lower, they (the industries) will obtain cost efficiency," he remarked at the Industry Ministry's Green Industry Award 2022.

Furthermore, the green standards will also make the implementation of carbon tax mandatory.

The companies that meet the SIH will also have greater opportunities to become players in carbon trading and the green market, which is one of the fiscal incentives of the implementation of the SIH.

Meanwhile, the Green Industry Award given by the Industry Ministry will serve as one of the non-fiscal incentives since it promotes green-certified companies among the wider community.

"We will continue to encourage such incentives, both fiscal and non-fiscal," the official stated.

The Industry Ministry will collaborate with the National Public Procurement Agency (LKPP) to include the products of green-certified industries in the green product procurement catalogue, he added.

The cooperation is still being discussed by the ministry and LKPP, as currently, the LKPP is increasing the procurement of green products.

Supriadi emphasized that his party will draft the mandatory SIH carefully by considering various matters, especially the sustainability aspect, which is currently becoming the need and concern of the international community.

"When their implementation as mandatory standards begin, our green industry standards will have complied with the global standards," he added.
