Indonesia always tries to balance the differences and be part of the solution to the world's problems
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia strives to uphold the value and implementation of global cooperation amid global challenges, through its free and active foreign policy.

“Indonesia always tries to balance the differences and be part of the solution to the world;s problems,” Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi stated virtually at the Conference of Indonesian Foreign Policy (CIFP) 2022, here on Saturday.

Marsudi noted that in carrying out its foreign politics, Indonesia always honors the international law.

“With (the world’s) trust in Indonesia’s leadership, we can see the attendance of world leaders in the G20 Summit was high, and the meeting could result in a declaration,” she stated.

According to Marsudi, many parties were pessimistic about the G20, but amid the difficulties, Indonesia successfully grasped the moment of cooperation.

In continuing negotiations for it to result in an agreement, Indonesia made several efforts, such as “testing the water” approach, ministers’ level phone calls, and leaders' engagement.

As a result, the G20 Summit, under Indonesia’s Presidency, successfully accomplished three main things: serving the interests of developing countries, creating precedence of 361 concrete projects, and accelerating inclusive global economic recovery.

The G20 declaration also includes gender equality and women's empowerment as well as highlights developing and small island countries’ interests and voices.

There are also the Bali Compact and the Bali Energy Transitions Roadmap and the commitment of funding from advanced countries amounting to U$81.6 billion.

In addition, Indonesia invited G20 countries to contribute to the pandemic fund that has collected US$1.5 billion, and the figure continues to increase.

Marsudi added that all these achievements in global cooperation proved that the free and active policy works well, delivers multilateralism, and focuses on the paradigm of collaboration.

At the CIFP attended by several college students, Marsudi reminded that the implementation of foreign policy needs the skills of good networking, personal engagement, and friendship.

Lastly, she lauded all parties involved in making the G20 a success and announced that Indonesia’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023 will carry the theme of “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.”
