Minister accepts Indonesia's stipulation as 2023 ADMM host

Jakarta (ANTARA) - At the 9th ADMM Retreat ADMM Plus in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on Wednesday, November 23, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto accepted stipulation of Indonesia being the host of the 2023 ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) Forum.

The minister noted that ADMM Plus had proven to be a useful and effective way for ASEAN member countries, particularly in development on defense matters of each country.

"This mechanism has been used as a venue for meeting, exchanging views, exchanging opinions, and establishing direct communication, which improves consensus and understanding that state leaders come to," the minister noted in a press release received here on Thursday.

With this, Subianto said, ASEAN has proven capable of contributing to the world economy and demonstrated that its approach in resolving conflicts is through negotiation to reach a consensus.

"We achieved what our people wanted, which is achieving peace that is a required for prosperity," he noted.

He commended ASEAN dialogue partners, plus countries, as their participation was a crucial part of ADMM's relevance and credibility.

It is believed that the current geopolitical conflicts can and must be resolved through negotiations, as there is understanding that the use of force cannot resolve the problem.

"We must call on all countries to respect the interests of everyone in a geopolitical conflict. We must respect the interests of everyone," he said.

According to Minister Subianto, peace and prosperity are the vital interests of all countries that are interconnected and need each other.

He compelled all ASEAN members and partner countries to make all-out efforts in understanding the interests and concerns of other nations, knowing that all countries had a major responsibility and duty of maintaining peace.

"Only through self-restraint, compromise, and understanding can we realize the dreams of each of our nations of achieving peace and prosperity. There will be no prosperity without peace. Therefore, let us prosper together," he concluded.
