The disaster preparedness bag contains equipment used when disasters occur, such as battery flashlight, food, and medicine
Tidore, North Maluku (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) handed out disaster preparedness bags to people as a precautionary measure against earthquakes.

"The disaster preparedness bag contains equipment used when disasters occur, such as battery flashlight, food, and medicine," Jakarta BMKG's Weather Forecast Senior Yuli Kartiningsih noted during the 2022 Sail Tidore here, Monday.

The disaster preparedness bag was given free of charge as part of the Earthquake Field School (SLG) program, she noted.

The distribution of these bags can encourage people to always be wary and know the signs of natural disasters, she said.

The agency as well as the central government's help and intervention is necessary in providing education on natural disasters to local residents, she noted.

With SLG, participants can spread the knowledge to other people to realize preparedness, she explained.

"This activity aims to provide knowledge and education to the people on potential earthquakes and tsunamis in their regions as well as how to mitigate them," she noted.

With support from the earthquake data, the BMKG strives to mathematically analyze and simulate to calculate the potential of worst-case scenarios that have to be mitigated.

Moreover, Kartiningsih introduced the Climate Field School (SLI) and Fishermen Weather Field School (SLCN) that are other programs of BMKG.

"These activities are undertaken to improve the understanding of people or farmers, especially information related to weather and climate," she explained.

Meanwhile, SLCN provides education to fishermen on various topics starting from wave estimation to sea currents that have to be watched out for.

With this, the BMKG continues to make efforts to offer people an understanding of the impact of weather and climate change that occurs in their regions.

The BMKG Field School has operated since 2011 in several regions within countries through SLI, SLCN, and SLG.
