The (use of the) QRIS payment method in East Nusa Tenggara continues to grow, until August 2022 there were 139,385 merchants spread across 22 districts and cities throughout NTT
Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The number of digital payment system users using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has continued to increase to reach 139,385, according to Bank Indonesia.

"The (use of the) QRIS payment method in East Nusa Tenggara continues to grow, until August 2022 there were 139,385 merchants spread across 22 districts and cities throughout NTT," acting head of BI’s East Nusa Tenggara representative office, Donny H. Heatubun, informed at the 2022 Bank Indonesia Annual Meeting here on Wednesday.

This increase is related to the development of the digital financial transaction system using QRIS in the region, he explained.

According to Heatubun, the value of regional QRIS transactions reached Rp21.55 billion as of August 2022.

He said that QRIS is part of the commitment to achieving transaction efficiency and financial inclusion in the state.

The growing use of the payment method is in line with the increasing demand and need for convenient and safer transaction services sans physical contact, he added.

He then commended the regional government, the Regional House of Representatives, and banking and business actors for contributing to efforts to provide such services.

The policy to use QRIS is also aimed at promoting the electronification of government transactions, he added.

This year, three regional governments in East Nusa Tenggara have been grouped in the digital transaction electronification index stage: Kupang city, Ngada district, and Ende district, he noted.

Meanwhile, 14 regional governments have reached the advanced stage and 6 others have been classified as developing.

To support the electronification of regional government transactions in East Nusa Tenggara, BI is actively conducting capacity-building, meetings, and encouraging the implementation of fund disbursement orders in collective networks through the team for regional digitalization expansion in all districts and cities in the region.
