"We will also intensively coordinate with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, ASEAN Secretariat, and other institutions in ensuring that the preparations align with the central government," Head of the Jakarta Regional Cooperation Bureau Marulina Dewi explained here on Tuesday.
The two agendas where ASEAN leaders will meet are since Indonesia is chairing the ASEAN Chairmanship 2023, and Jakarta will be the venue for the 2023 MGMAC.
Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono has instructed all Regional Governmental Apparatus Organizations (OPDs) in the provincial government to give their best in preparing and supporting Indonesia's ASEAN Chairmanship and Jakarta's role as the host of MGMAC 2023.
Earlier, on November 13, 2022, at the ASEAN Summit, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received the gavel of the ASEAN Chairmanship from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen during the closing ceremony of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related summits at Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The chairmanship of the MGMAC 2023 was also handed over by Governor of Phnom Penh Khuong Sreng to Head of the Jakarta Regional Cooperation Bureau Marulina Dewi.
In addition, Deputy Governor of East Java Emil Elestianto Dardak and Mayor of Bogor Bima Arya Sugiarto, as representatives of Indonesia, accepted the handover of the 2023 ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF) Chairmanship from Cambodia.
MGMAC is a forum initiated by President Jokowi when he was governor of Jakarta in 2013.
This forum is a platform for governors and mayors from the capitals of ASEAN countries to discuss challenges and solutions to urban problems as well as a means of strengthening collaboration.
"As a city of collaboration, Jakarta welcomes cooperation initiatives from local and international partners to develop cities as a better place to live," Dewi remarked.
