Jakarta (ANTARA) - In a year of its operation, the National Commission on Disabilities (KND) received thousands of complaints through the National Disabilities Channel (Dita) 143 aimed at accommodating aspirations and needs of persons with disabilities in Indonesia.

"Thousands of aspirations have come in, and we have conducted an analysis, and we have even taken measures to resolve several cases that were included in our complaint channel," deputy chairman of the National Commission on Disabilities Deka Kurniawan remarked at the commission's one-year press conference and Disability Day commemoration here on Tuesday.

Dita 143 channel, which enables them to accommodate the people's aspirations, reports things and conducts monitoring, thereby making it easier for them to fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities.

They are also directly involved in providing input on policy-making instruments that are appropriate to the situation of persons with disabilities in the field based on the aspirations of Dita 143.

In addition, KND conducted a situational analysis of the challenges and recommendations for the data collection system in collaboration with relevant ministries.

"We have directly engaged and been directly involved with the government with relevant ministries, institutions, such as the National Development Planning Agency and the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, along with several Statistics Indonesia agencies, and even involved first-hand in being able to offer input on what kind of sentence must the instrument have to make it suitable, because it is very important and they need it," Kurniawan noted.

They also pursue efforts to implement regulations and policies and provide assistance to some regions to determine regulatory articles regarding disability rights.

"Indeed, it cannot be recorded in its entirety because they have their own mechanism, there are FGDs, synchronization phase, and discussions with persons with disabilities," he explained.

The next priority program aims to ensure that persons with disabilities were involved in every monitoring process and that the commission is committed to heeding their aspirations, he noted.

"We came there for people with disabilities. Hence, the first thing we listen was their voice, their aspirations," he noted.

They also ensure that disability needs are properly recorded, so that they could better inform the regional governments regarding disability rights in terms of service and reception that were still inadequate.

"That is part of our efforts to involve people with disabilities in the evaluation, monitoring, and advocacy process," he concluded.
