"We hope that the TNI, under the leadership of Admiral Margono, supported by a commitment of the government and the House of Representatives, can achieve the MEF target in Strategic Plan Phase III so that the military defense posture can be optimal," Maharani said here on Tuesday.
The Indonesian government has implemented the MEF policy in three stages or strategic plans since 2010. The MEF policy has currently entered Phase III, which covers the 2019–2024 period, and its implementation is targeted to reach 70 percent by the end of 2024.
The House Speaker said she expects Margono to continue the strategic programs created by the previous TNI Commander, including fulfilling the MEF.
According to her, the MEF target must be fulfilled as the main condition for TNI's effectiveness in carrying out its main task and function of dealing with actual threats.
"The House will continue to support the MEF realization according to its authority. In maintaining the national sovereignty, the posture of the TNI's strength is very important," Maharani said.
The House will provide the best budgeting support for MEF fulfillment in order to maintain Indonesia's sovereignty, she added.
She also asked Admiral Margono to maintain TNI's solidity, ensure institutional neutrality, and not get involved in practical politics.
"As Indonesia is entering a political year, TNI soldiers must be able to maintain neutrality," she said.
In addition, she informed that the House supports Admiral Margono's vision and mission for developing TNI human resources.
She further said that TNI should continue to maintain synergy with the National Police in order to strengthen the country's defense and security.
