In the near future, I will coordinate with BNPB on what actions we must take
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono reviewed the local-level implementation of work from home (WFH) to anticipate extreme weather that is expected to last until early 2023.

"Although WFH is local, depending on each company, we would see the next situations," Hartono stated here on Wednesday.

The acting governor said he will coordinate with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to follow up on addressing the potential for extreme weather conditions.

"In the near future, I will coordinate with BNPB on what actions we must take," he stated.

Hartono has, so far, appealed to companies to apply the WFH scheme in case extreme weather occurs in the capital, though there are no official instructions or circulars about applying WFH for anticipating extreme weather.

He believed that the WFH method is one of the solutions to reduce public mobility and traffic congestion in Jakarta during heavy rains.

Hartono also urged the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and the city's transportation office to provide information on points that are prone to flood and congestion.

"We know that in November, December, and January, even February, we are in the rainy season. Therefore, the Chief of BPBD, (Police's) Director of Traffic, and the Transportation Office can provide information to the public on points that are prone to inundation and traffic jams," he stated earlier on Monday (October 24).

Furthermore, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), at the cabinet plenary session on Tuesday (December 6), urged officials to maximize weather information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) as an early warning, disaster mitigation effort, and anticipation of extreme weather and traffic safety.

"Please maximize weather information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) as an early warning. Disaster mitigation in all areas that have disaster potential must also be considered," the president noted.
