"Assistance in the form of cash was given to 8,341 families whose houses were damaged due to the earthquake," BNPB’s deputy for rehabilitation and reconstruction, Jarwansyah, said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The stimulus funds were categorized based on the severity of the damage to houses, he informed. Families whose homes were lightly damaged received Rp10 million, those whose homes were moderately damaged received Rp25 million, and those with heavily damaged houses received Rp50 million.
"Right now, we are working on the second phase to distribute the fund to the other 16,880 families affected," Jarwansyah said.
He estimated that the houses of 60 thousand families were damaged in the earthquake. As of Wednesday, BNPB had recorded quake-affected 51,300 households.
Jarwansyah said that houses with minor, moderate, and severe damage will receive technical guidelines (juknis) prepared by the BNPB and the Cianjur district government, while their implementation will be monitored by the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).
"Especially for moderately damaged houses, the stimulus funds will be distributed in phases. The whole fund will be blocked even though it has entered the recipient's bank account," he informed.
As for heavily damaged houses, BNPB provided an alternative for families to build their own houses with earthquake-resistant technology, while BNPB will help underprivileged families to build 36 sq.m houses for them.
"Another option is relocation for houses located in the red zone of the earthquake fault zone in Cugenang sub-district," he informed.
He said that so far, the stimulus assistance has been specifically given to Cugenang Sub-district while the government has prepared relocation land in Sirnagalih Village, Cilaku Sub-district, spanning 2.5 hectares for the construction of 200 housing units.
Later, the location will be developed by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) while the construction of the site will be monitored and assisted by the BPBD.
BNPB said it expects that the provision of housing assistance by donors and the Ministry of PUPR will be based on one data, both on damaged houses and other damage, compiled by the BNPB.
"Thus, it can become a reference for ministries, institutions, and the private sector that will help build houses. The new houses must meet the requirements for earthquake-resistant houses," Jarwansyah said.
