Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo invited members of the younger generation to eradicate corruption, especially in the agriculture sector, and maintain national food security.

Limpo, in his statement here on Wednesday, noted that corruption in the agriculture sector could cause a food crisis that poses a threat to Indonesia's unity.

"As a government agency whose job is maintaining Indonesia's food security, I invite the younger generation to reject corruption, especially in the agricultural sector," the minister noted in his remarks during the International Anti-Corruption Day commemoration event on December 9.

To this end, the Ministry of Agriculture is promoting the Secure Food, Secure the Future campaign as a form of anti-corruption commitment for Indonesia's agriculture sector.

"One of the efforts that can be made is securing food. Food is the most important," the minister emphasized.

Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture Jan Maringka stated that corruption is an "enemy" that must be fought in order to maintain Indonesia's prosperity in the future.

To this end, members of the younger generation, as a key for the future, must have awareness regarding the importance of protecting themselves from corrupt practices.

"From an early age, we should expect them to understand, starting from simple things, such as the awareness that needs to be owned by the younger generation, the millennial generation, (and) about how they (should) obey the law," he noted during the Round Table Discussion with the theme of "APIP and APH Synergy in the Fight Against Corruption Towards the World Food Barn in 2045."

Earlier, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin stated that acts of corruption could worsen the impact of the food crisis in several countries.

"Corruption in water and land services will have a negative impact on the welfare of farmers, so it can worsen the impact of the food crisis," Amin noted.

According to the vice president, all countries realize that corruption is the root of various problems. Corruption also corrodes the nation's achievements.
