Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has said that the strengthening of the National Health Insurance (JKN) program must become a priority to support human resource development.

"One of the efforts to continuously improve the quality of human resources is the implementation of the JKN program carried out by the National Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) since January 1, 2014," the ministry's deputy for social welfare improvement, Andie Megantara, said at the launch of the 2016–2021 JKN Statistics Book here on Wednesday.

According to him, the JKN program is essential to produce quality and competitive human resources in Indonesia in order to achieve the medium-term development target and realize Indonesia's 2045 vision.

In the 2020–2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan, the number of JKN participants is targeted to reach 98 percent of the total population by 2024, he noted.

Various efforts need to be made to reach universal health coverage. The aim is to ensure the JKN program protects all citizens of Indonesia from financial risks due to sickness, he said.

"JKN is present in the community to provide easier access to health services. With JKN, it is hoped that the quality of health services can continue to be improved," he added.

Megantara said that in order to strengthen the implementation of the JKN program, President Joko Widodo has issued Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2022 concerning the optimization of the National Health Insurance Program’s implementation.

"Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2022 was issued to optimize the implementation of the JKN program, the improvement of access to quality health services, and to ensure the sustainability of the JKN program," he informed.

In the Presidential Instruction, one of the instructions given by the president to BPJS Kesehatan is carrying out participants' data matching with ministries and data provider institutions to improve the accuracy and validity of data on JKN participants.
