Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have granted permission for holding the 2022 AFF Championship at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium here on Friday (Dec 23), with the spectator capacity set at 70 percent.

Police issued the permission after carrying out a risk evaluation, Chief of Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo informed after conducting a direct inspection of GBK Stadium here on Tuesday.

The inspection was carried out in accordance with the National Police Regulation (Perpol) No. 10 of 2022 on sports competition security, which was issued in October.

The regulation was issued as a follow-up to President Joko Widodo's instructions to create a better football climate and meet Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) standards, he said.

"The President has ordered to execute a total evaluation, from the organizing system, security system, and aspects that involve security, players, and spectators," he explained.

The regulation contains guidelines on how to handle sports security systems, including for football, he highlighted.

"There are six aspects, which have become one of the things that we measure so that, in the future, we expect that the event organizing can truly meet existing standards," he said.

The permission for spectators at the 2022 AFF Championship is part of a trial based on Perpol No. 7 of 2022 to observe sports activity implementation capability in terms of security, safety, and match organizing, Prabowo said.

"If this is successful, we can organize it with 100 percent capacity," he informed.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, reminded football supporters who will be watching the 2022 AFF Championship matches live at the stadium to comply with existing regulations.

"Our inspection will be stringent before entry. Do not bring anything if you want to be inspected," he said.
