We hope that all (our) Bawaslu colleagues will carry out the selection process properly -- not violating applicable laws and regulations.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) will strictly supervise the recruitment of the voting committee staff (PPS) who will be in charge during the implementation of the 2024 General Election.

"All ranks (of Bawaslu) must conduct close monitoring (regarding the recruitment process). It is one of the attempts to prevent (election) violations," Bawaslu chairperson Rahmat Bagja said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The supervision will certainly be adjusted to the recruitment agenda set by the General Election Commission (KPU) for the 2024 General Election PPS, he added.

The registration stage of the recruitment process will last from December 18–27, 2022. Furthermore, a written test has been scheduled from January 2–4, 2023.

Meanwhile, the interview stage will be implemented on January 8–10. The selected staff will be inducted on January 17.

According to the Bawaslu chairperson, the duties and responsibilities of the supervisory agency are not easy, hence the agency must work optimally.

In addition to monitoring PPS recruitment, Bawaslu has been tasked with selecting sub-district and village election supervisors in January 2023.

"We hope that all (our) Bawaslu colleagues will carry out the selection process properly -- not violating applicable laws and regulations," he said.

Bagja also asked all election supervisors to strengthen their understanding about the election laws, Bawaslu regulations, and other related election rules.

He emphasized that the attempt aims to ensure that the supervisors truly grasp their tasks and responsibilities.

"If you (the election supervisors) do not understand (the regulations), you can ask or consult with the national Bawaslu (officers). Coordination and good relations among divisions must be maintained. Must work together in carrying out the supervisory tasks," he added.

The general elections will be held on February 14, 2024. The KPU has declared that 17 national as well as 6 local political parties are eligible to participate in the elections.

The 6 local parties will only contest elections in Aceh.
