We must immediately restore the flow of goods and tourist traffic to the pre-pandemic period
Bogor, W Java (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed keenness on a new flight route being opened between Indonesia and Vietnam as well as the earlier opened route being revitalized.

"Direct flight routes between the business and tourism centers of the two countries must be revitalized. Airlines from the two countries are expected to finalize plans for new flight routes from Da Nang to Denpasar and Ho Chi Minh -Jakarta as well as the addition of the Jakarta - Ho Chi Minh City flight route," President Jokowi stated at the Bogor Presidential Palace, Thursday.

President Jokowi conveyed the statement at a press conference with President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyn Xuân Phúc. President Phúc is on a state visit to Indonesia on December 21-23, 2022.

"We must immediately restore the flow of goods and tourist traffic to the pre-pandemic period," President Jokowi remarked.

During the meeting, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was agreed on cooperation in energy and mineral resources, cooperation in combating terrorism, and cooperation in eradicating the illegal trade of narcotics.

"I hope that cooperation in fisheries and the eradication of illegal fishing would be strengthened by accelerating the finalization of the MoU on maritime and fisheries cooperation," President Jokowi stated.

The two leaders also discussed several regional issues.

"The priority for Indonesia's ASEAN Chair for 2023 is to emphasize ASEAN's central role in maintaining regional stability and peace and ASEAN's central role in making Southeast Asia a center of economic growth," President Jokowi remarked.

The president lauded Vietnam's support for Indonesia's chairmanship in the ASEAN.

President Phúc, in his statement, said Vietnam fully supports the theme of Indonesia's Chairmanship in ASEAN in 2023 of "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth."

"Next year, we will hold our 10-year strategic partnership, and there are two things that are the direction of this cooperation, namely, increasing the exchange of high-level delegations of the two countries and translating our agreement into reality and carrying out the ASEAN Program to implement the strategic partnership in 2024 - 2028," President Phúc stated.

President Phúc said Indonesia and Vietnam had agreed to achieve a trade target worth US$15 billion by 2028.

"We must diversify the areas of investment for the economic communities of the two countries, including in terms of green economy, green transformation, and renewable energy," President Phúc remarked.

In the field of security and defense, President Phúc urged to continue to increase cooperation in the region, including in regional forums.

"Regarding the South China Sea, Vietnam congratulates Indonesia on Indonesia's success in the G20 Presidency. Vietnam fully supports Indonesia at the ASEAN Chair in 2023," President Phúc remarked.
