"With the situation that is getting more under control, and the low (number of) cases and followed by the improvement in people's socioeconomic (condition), the government will adjust the handling of COVID-19," he informed at a virtual press conference on Thursday.
The handling of COVID-19 patients will continue as long as there are COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, he said.
In principle, PPKM has had an impact on controlling the pandemic in Indonesia in the past three years, Adisasmito added.
"Policy adjustments are made while still improving health protocols, vaccination, surveillance, and public communication to keep herd immunity high," he said.
According to him, policy adjustments must be responded to by the community by continuously maintaining their health so that the transition toward the endemic phase can run well and COVID-19 remains under control in Indonesia.

Based on the task force’s report, Indonesia's COVID-19 pandemic situation is under control, as reflected by people's activities, which have reached pre-pandemic levels.
Indonesia's COVID-19 infections and active cases increased for four weeks at the end of October 2022. Infections per week increased from 19 thousand cases to 46 thousand cases, with an average of 6,500 cases recorded per day.
However, the increase in cases did not last long. In the past four weeks, COVID-19 infections have decreased significantly to 10 thousand cases per week, or an average of around 1,400 cases per day, with around 29 thousand active cases per day.
According to the spokesperson, the decline in cases has also been followed by a dip in the death rate. As of December 18, 2022, the weekly death toll has reached 174 with an average of 24 deaths recorded per day.
In addition, the average daily recovery rate has also been maintained at 96 percent throughout 2022, and in the past two months, it has even reached 97 percent.
