Indeed, the COVID-19 cases in Indonesia have started to decline amid the new variants. We already have a thought to stop the PPKM, meaning that the condition will return to normal. However, we must see it after the holidays
Bali (ANTARA) - The community activity restrictions (PPKM) would be terminated based on a study of the condition following the Christmas and New Year holidays beforehand, Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin stated.

"Indeed, the COVID-19 cases in Indonesia have started to decline amid the new variants. We already have a thought to stop the PPKM, meaning that the condition will return to normal. However, we must see it after the holidays," he remarked after opening the 2nd ASEAN Islamic Conference in Bali, Thursday.

According to Amin, if the number of COVID-19 cases continued to decrease after the Christmas and New Year holidays, the government can stop the PPKM implementation. Currently, all regions in Indonesia are still at PPKM level 1.

"However, based on the analysis of several scientists and experts, we still have to be vigilant because the cases in China are rising. Do not let the condition in China affect us," he cautioned.

The vice president said all elements should continue to anticipate the development of COVID-19.

On the other hand, the government will continue to intensify vaccinations, especially booster vaccinations, to build and maintain people's immunity, he added.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the Indonesian government would possibly declare the lifting of PPKM at the end of 2022.

The decision was taken on the basis of a downward trend in daily COVID-19 cases that continued to occur. As of Tuesday, Indonesia's daily COVID-19 case count stood at 1,200.

The figure showed a drastic decline as compared to the peak of the Omicron spread, which reached 64 thousand cases in a single day.

According to the president, the difficult situation of the COVID-19 pandemic was able to be handled well and be brought under control. This is because the government maintained a calm stance and made careful calculations to handle the difficult situation, he remarked.
