"This is in line with the TransJakarta company's budget work plan," Head of the Jakarta Transportation Office Syafrin Liputo said here on Thursday.
With the addition of 190 electric buses in 2023, TransJakarta will have a total of 220 electric buses, he informed. Currently, there are only 30 electric buses that are operating in Jakarta.
Besides TransJakarta, the provincial government of Jakarta is also planning to procure electric vehicles.
The Jakarta Transportation Office is planning to use 120 electric motorcycles for operational purposes from 2023, in line with Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2022.
The plan is that those electric motorcycles would be used as officer patrol vehicles in early 2023.
Earlier, acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono had said that in 2023, it is targeted that there would be a total of 300 electric buses to support environmentally friendly transportation in Jakarta.
"There is the implementation of 300 units of electric buses (for the 2023 fiscal year)," he said.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has issued a presidential instruction regarding the use of electric vehicles for official purposes for central and regional government agencies.
In the instruction, Widodo has asked regional heads to formulate and stipulate regulations to support the acceleration of the use of electric vehicles.
He has also called for the preparation of budget allocations to support the program.
Then, regional-owned enterprises (BUMD) have also been encouraged to increase the use of various types of electric vehicles.
The Indonesian government has emphasized its readiness to enter the electric vehicle era through Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 on the use of battery-based electric vehicles for road transportation.
Under the road map, the government is targeting to put 2 million electric vehicles on the country's roads by 2025.
