Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari, at the Indonesia NOC Office, here, Thursday, stated that Indonesia is ready to compete with Qatar in its bid as host of the 2036 Olympics.

Indonesia has expressed its interest to participate in the 2036 host bidding first to the President of International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach during a G20 meeting in Bali on November.

Meanwhile, Qatar officially expressed its keenness to organize the 2036 Olympics not long after the success of organizing the 2022 World Cup.

The country has nominated itself as the host of the Olympics in 2016, 2020, and 2032, but it was defeated by Brazil, Japan, and Australia.

"Our relationship with Qatar is very well. We do not see this as a competition," Oktohari remarked.

"We prepare ourselves because the Olympics is not an event (held in one country) forever. This means there are Olympics 2036, 2040, and so on," he stated.

In terms of readiness, Indonesia can be considered as being more prepared since the country has many records of organizing international championships, he noted.

"Indonesia is always ready. Economically, the country is also ready, especially since we are a G20 country," he added.

The KOI will involve the IOC in the construction planning for the 2036 Olympics' facilities in Nusantara Capital City (IKN). This action is undertaken, so that the constructed facilities and infrastructure will be adequate for the Olympics.

"Thus, that is our way to bind them (IOC), so that they are involved from the beginning in preparing the 2036 Olympics' facilities and infrastructure," Oktohari explained.

Indonesia had earlier nominated itself to hold the 2032 Olympics, but it lost to Australia.

In addition to Qatar and Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico and Turkey are among the countries that have expressed their interest to become the host of the 2036 Olympics.
