One of the five damaged boats in Bandaran Village had incurred heavy damage, while the other four were lightly damagedPamekasan, East Java (ANTARA) - The Pamekasan District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), East Java, collected data on the number of fishing boats damaged by huge waves and strong winds that hit the region in the past week.
"As of December 27, 2022, the total number of fishing boats damaged by large waves and strong winds reached 27 units," Acting Chief of Pamekasan BPBD Amin Jabir remarked here on Tuesday.
Jabir noted that 22 boats were damaged in Kramat Village and five in Bandaran Village in Tlanakan Sub-district, Pamekasan.
"One of the five damaged boats in Bandaran Village had incurred heavy damage, while the other four were lightly damaged," he remarked.
Meanwhile, 10 out of the 22 boats damaged in Kramat Village were heavily damaged, while the other 12 units were lightly damaged.
"The number of fishing boats damaged by these strong winds and large waves is temporary, based on reports submitted by field officials to date," he explained.
In addition, the BPBD has reported the incident to Pamekasan District Head Baddrut Tamam and coordinated with the district's Social Affairs Office, so that boat owners can get assistance.
Currently, most fishers in Pamekasan cannot go to sea due to the extreme weather, such as high waves and strong winds.
The BPBD also earlier stated that strong winds and large waves in the Pamekasan waters can potentially last until the next week.
Fishers are urged to follow the information on weather developments if they are looking to go to sea as a precautionary measure against unfortunate events.
On Monday (December 26) afternoon, the Pamekasan BPBD expanded the search area for a missing fisherman from Pamekasan to Gili Genting Island, Sumenep District, East Java.
The missing fisherman drowned in the sea on Thursday (December 22) at 2 a.m. local time. When he was at the front of the boat, he fell into the sea, as a huge wave hit the boat. Since he could not swim quickly, he was drowned by the huge wave.
