"The total achievement for the location of RHL activities in 2022 is 77,103 hectares and the number of soil and water conservation buildings (KTA) is 2,984 units. In addition, the ministry also carried out the construction of community forests with Special Allocation Funds covering an area of 16,505 hectares," Director General of Watershed Management and Forest Rehabilitation (PDASRH) at the ministry, Dyah Murtiningsih, said at the “2022 KLHK Year-End Reflection” in Jakarta on Thursday.
Outlining the efforts made to protect and restore the environment in 2022, she said that the rehabilitation of forest and vegetative land was conducted over an area of 30,975 hectares, community nursery gardens (KBR) were set up on 26,875 hectares of land, natural resource conservation efforts (UPSA) covered 50 hectares, and mangrove rehabilitation was conducted on 1,210 hectares of land.
In the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara, forest and land rehabilitation efforts covered 1,117 hectares and watershed rehabilitation 16,876 hectares.
According to Murtiningsih, land and forest rehabilitation was carried out to increase land cover and reduce the rate of sedimentation or deposition of sediments on the river bed.
"The program is also becoming part of efforts to increase carbon stocks in order to fulfill the FoLU Net Sink 2030 target," she added.
She said that the ministry has continued to push for increased results from watershed management policies and forest and land rehabilitation that have ecological, economic, and social contributions.
For this matter, several measures will be taken to improve performance in 2023 and the following year, including conducting self-management and community empowerment for forest and land rehabilitation and conserving mangroves.
"With the consideration that the community around the forest, as the executor of this RHL, will later be able to maintain and take care of these plants and also become a stimulus to increase the income of the community around the forest," she explained.
