ASEAN Tourism Forum 2023 should become a momentum for our tourism revival
Bantul, Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The governments of Yogyakarta and Bantul District are preparing to hold the 2023 ASEAN Tourism Forum in February 2023 as part of efforts to boost the tourism sector in the province.

Yogyakarta will host the forum—one of the major tourism agendas in Southeast Asia—at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC), Bantul, in February 2023, chief executive of the forum, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Bendara, informed here on Friday.

“The ASEAN Tourism Forum is the biggest tourism event in Southeast Asia. To this end, ASEAN Tourism Forum 2023 should become a momentum for our tourism revival,” she said during a meeting with Bantul District Head Abdul Halim Muslih.

According to Bendara, the preparations for the forum have reached an advanced stage. Thus, what needs to be paid more attention to are details such as the implementation of field trips in a number of districts and cities in Yogyakarta.

The field trips can be carried out in the form of exploring tourist attractions and cultures of each district and city in Yogyakarta.

Muslih expressed the hope that the field trips would help boost Bantul's potential at the international level.

Moreover, during the field trips, a meeting will be arranged between business players from 10 Southeast Asian countries and local business players from Bantul, he added.

"We, of course, will finalize coordination with the Tourism Office, the Culture Office, the Cooperatives, SMEs (small and medium enterprises), and Industry Office so that the field trips will really have an impact, not only on international buyers but also on the people of Bantul," he said.

Muslih further said he hopes that the coordination with all stakeholders in Bantul would result in well-rounded field trip packages in terms of visits and the readiness of locations and personnel.

The 2023 ASEAN Tourism Forum, which will be attended by 250 buyers and 400 sellers from all over Southeast Asia, is expected to strengthen business cooperation and make ASEAN a reference for leading tourist destinations.
