The Riau Provincial Police and its ranks successfully uncovered 1,869 drug cases and named 2,768 suspects (this year).
Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA) - The Riau Provincial Police thwarted efforts to distribute 745.16 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 478,623 ecstasy pills, 134.53 kilograms of hashish, and 3,282 Happy Five pills in 2022.



"The Riau Provincial Police and its ranks successfully uncovered 1,869 drug cases and named 2,768 suspects (this year)," chief of the Riau Provincial Police, Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal, informed at a year-end press conference here on Saturday.

The number of drug cases uncovered rose by 266 or 14.2 percent and the number of suspects increased by 420 or 15.2 percent compared to last year, he said.



The provincial police bestowed an award to the director of drug investigation, Senior Commissioner Yos Guntur, in recognition of the directorate’s success in uncovering drug cases in 2022, Iqbal added.



Guntur was also named the best police officer this year.



The drug investigation directorate also implemented innovations in the fight against drugs, including the launch of an application called "Sikat Narkoba" (Fight Drugs). It also established good relations with relevant stakeholders.

Guntur was also active in giving awards to his subordinates who performed their duties well in the field.



"The Riau Provincial Police could not have worked optimally in 2022 without the assistance of its ranks. We express our high gratitude and appreciation to them," he said.



However, the provincial police's performance was far from perfect, he added. Therefore, the police need assistance and support from all sides to keep the province safe and conducive.
