Tangerang (ANTARA) - Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Minister Abdul Kadir Karding urged South Korean authorities to conduct an investigation into a work accident that claimed the life of Ngadiman, an Indonesian citizen from Cilacap, Central Java.

"We will certainly push for legal procedures there. In essence, the state is present to handle this case," he remarked in Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday (June 29).

Karding explained that the government, through the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, has requested South Korean law enforcement and the victim’s employer to conduct a thorough investigation, including looking into possible negligence.

“South Korean authorities are currently examining the employing company, and we are committed to seeing the process through, especially regarding potential violations of work safety standards,” he emphasized.

Elaborating on the tragedy, the minister noted that victim Ngadiman reportedly sustained fatal injuries on June 25 while cleaning a conveyor machine, which unexpectedly pulled in his arm. The incident occurred at a metal factory where he was employed under the government-to-government placement scheme.

Karding highlighted that the victim, who had departed for South Korea in October last year, passed away after being rushed to a hospital in Cheongwon City.

The P2MI Ministry received the victim's body at the cargo terminal of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang on Sunday afternoon.

Karding assured the bereaved family that the Indonesian government would handle all related matters, including the funeral arrangements and ensuring the fulfillment of rights under the victim’s employment contract.

He noted that the government had disbursed Rp213 million (around US$13 thousand) in compensation funds through state insurer BPJS.

"Scholarships will also be provided for his two children," he added.
