"Firstly, we remind the KPU to ensure proper openness in all phases in the run-up to the general elections for the public," Bawaslu chairperson Rahmat Bagja said during a media discussion on the 2022 electoral supervisory performance and 2023 projections at the Bawaslu Media Centre here on Thursday.
Besides Bagja, the discussion was attended by Bawaslu commissioners Puadi, Lolly Suhenti, and Herwyn J.H. Malonda, as well as a coalition of journalists covering the elections.
Openness in the election process would allow residents to observe KPU’s implementation of every election phase and dispel all concerns regarding any delays, he explained.
The Bawaslu head said that the KPU must also ensure openness in ongoing election processes, such as the registration of senator candidates for the Regional Representative Council (DPD) and electoral roll updates.
"What (must be kept open to the public)? It includes the registration of DPD senator candidates, which has started now. Hence, we, the KPU and Bawaslu, are organizing the electoral process together, and it will disprove concerns about election delay," Bagja added.
He said that public uproar over concerns of delayed elections, which was observed in 2022, must not be repeated this year.
"I believe (election delay concerns) must end in 2022. Today is 2023, the process is ongoing, and we hope there will be no more concerns about that. We think those concerns are not good and are incorrect, and, God Willing, our election phases remain on track," the Bawaslu head remarked.
