"You need to think carefully if you are going to work abroad through unofficial channels," Wiyogo stated here on Saturday.
"You have to consider the possible impact, especially when dealing with problems at work. Unless the migrant workers leave through official channels," she remarked.
Kowani earlier paid a courtesy visit to Brunei Darussalam. During the visit, Kowani provided support to ensure that protection for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) is carried out optimally.
They also pressed for completing the MoU on the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant workers in the domestic sector.
Wiyogo drew attention to several cases experienced by PMI in Brunei Darussalam, most of whom are women, including sexual harassment by employers, overstaying, physical violence, non-payment of wages for years, and other cases.
"We ask PMI to convey to friends in their areas to not take the same action, so that the problems faced by PMIs, who depart illegally, do not happen again," she emphasized.
In future, she expects that a bilateral agreement would be in place to protect Indonesian migrant workers in Brunei Darussalam, akin to the agreements reached with other countries, such as Singapore and Hong Kong.
