Before the 2023 SEA Games, there will be many programs for athletes and each of them will participate in events abroad at least twice.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - National athletes will participate in at least 2 sporting events abroad to prepare for the 32nd SEA Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 2023, athletics national team manager Mustara has informed.

"Before the 2023 SEA Games, there will be many programs for athletes and each of them will participate in events abroad at least twice," he said here on Thursday.

According to him, the program’s implementation will depend on the coaches. "But our hope is that the athletes will be at their peak during the SEA Games, not during the competition tryouts," he added.

Athletes' participation in the competition tryouts will adjust to the coaches' plan for preparing them, he informed. In other words, athletes undergoing centralized national training (Pelatnas) will compete in different events overseas.

In addition to seeing the athletes' potential at overseas events, the Indonesian Athletics Federation (PASI) has also evaluated the results of the 2023 National Athletics Invitational or Open Competition at Madya Stadium in Senayan, Jakarta, on January 11, 2023.

PASI has also continued preparations ahead of the Cambodian SEA Games. Earlier, Indonesian athletes had participated in the Thailand Open Track and Field Championship 2022 at the National Athletics Center, Pathum Thani, Thailand, from November 28–December 1, 2022.

In the first international event ahead of the 2023 SEA Games, 30 Indonesian athletes—15 men and 15 women—competing in 22 disciplines bagged 11 gold, 7 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

PASI does not want a repeat of the performance at the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam. At the time, the achievements of athlete Lalu Muhammad Zohri and his team were far from the target.

Of the targeted 15 golds, only 2 were brought home, along with 5 silvers and 4 bronzes.
