Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry has designed the Indoor Multifunction Stadium (IMS) in Gelora Bung Karno area based on the green technology concept, which can help save electricity and water.

"Green in the sense that we take advantage of light, take advantage of air circulation, so that not too much energy is used; we also have to pay attention to water saving," Director General of Human Settlement at the ministry Diana Kusumastuti said here on Friday.

The stadium will collect rainwater and send it to an underground storage area, which could then be reused for other things later, she added.

It will have a capacity of 16,250 seats, with the seats placed in a circle around the arena, she elaborated. There will be 6,000 seats in the first and second rows each, 2,500 foldable seats, and 500 seats in the VVIP area.

The construction of the stadium began in April 2021 and is targeted to be completed in June 2023. However, Kusumastuti said she believes it can be completed earlier. Currently, the construction has reached 74 percent completion.

"January to June, there are still 5 months. If possible, pursue it, since this is the MEP architecture (mechanical, electrical, plumbing), I think it can be quicker," she added.

The Indoor Multifunction Stadium will be used as a venue for a world basketball championship or the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, which will be hosted in June.

Secretary general of the National Basketball Association, Nirmala Dewi, said that IMS has met the requirements for the FIBA Basketball World Cup, such as an indoor sports arena with a minimum capacity of 16 thousand spectators.

"This is almost the same as the one in Okinawa, Japan. So Japan is building a new stadium; the capacity is more or less (similar)," she informed.
