Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian shooters Arista Perdana Putri Darmoyo and Muhammad Iqbal Prabowo won the country’s first gold medal in the 2023 ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol held at the Shooting Field Senayan, Jakarta, Monday.

Arista/Iqbal secured the gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team category after defeating Min Kyung Oh/Mose Kim of South Korea in the final, with a score of 16-4.

“I am very grateful that I was able to fight to win this match. This is my first medal in the World Cup,” Arista stated.

“It is beyond my expectations. I only aimed to perform better than yesterday, but it turned out, we won the gold medal and that was not easy,” Iqbal noted.

Arista/Iqbal performed well since the qualifying round. They stood in the first position of the 18 teams competing in the pistol mixed team category.

In the qualifying round, the Indonesian pair recorded 579 points, with 18 shots perfectly on target. With this result, they qualified to go through the final to take on the South Korean pair that finished in the second position in the qualifying round.

In the final round, Arista/Iqbal executed the games solidly to lead until the very last shot.

The Indonesian pair took the lead, with an 8-0 advantage. South Korea’s pair managed to catch up in the fifth and sixth attempt to trim the deficit to 2-8.

However, the Indonesian pair was unstoppable since then and recorded perfect points until the last shot, with a score of 16-4, and claimed gold as well as made history as the first Indonesian shooter pair to win gold medal in the World Cup.

The team of Austria and Kazakhstan took the bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.

Earlier, on Sunday, Muhammad Iqbal Raia Prabowo won the bronze for Indonesia in the air pistol men's category.

The bronze is not only his first World Cup medal but also the first medal of the event from the country.
