Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) underscored the importance of collective responsibility in the wake of a decline in Indonesia's Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score in 2022.

"The latest CPI score record is a collective responsibility and is the collective role of our society and the entire national elements," KPK's News Department Head Ali Fikri stated here on Friday.

Indonesia's CPI score in 2022 did not merely reflect the anti-corruption performance of the KPK but also of the other government institutions, he stressed.

"It has many aspects influenced by various variables, which includes performance achievements in various institutions, including the KPK, as well as political, economic, and social conditions," Fikri noted.

Meanwhile, the KPK department head clarified that there was no connection between the newest CPI score and the controversial civic knowledge test in 2021 that had resulted in the dismissal of 57 KPK officers, as the CPI score had slid only in 2022 after it increased in 2021.

To address the decline in CPI score, the KPK called for intensifying cooperation between stakeholders to eradicate corruption in Indonesia, he stated.

Apart from the law enforcement aspect, the KPK will streamline various anti-corruption measures in the prevention, monitoring, and identification aspects, Fikri noted.

He affirmed that the anti-graft agency would also lay emphasis on anti-corruption education through collaborations with government ministries and institutions, regional authorities, schools and universities, and the general public.

On Tuesday (January 31), Transparency International Indonesia (TII) launched Indonesia's CPI data for 2022, which tanked four points to 34, from 38 in 2021 or is in the 110th position out of 180 countries in the survey.

The CPI draws on eight data sources and expert assessments to measure public sector corruption in 180 countries and territories. A score of 0 represents very corrupt while a score of 100 signifies very clean.

With these results, Indonesia was only able to increase its CPI score by two points, from a score of 32 over the last decade since 2012. In 2021, Indonesia's CPI score was 38, with a ranking of 96.
