However, the figure is still temporary, as the allocation for 2024 is still being calculated.
“The budget for the general elections has been sufficiently prepared, and of course, it was (allocated) with wisdom," the minister said at the “Indonesian Media Public Lecture” hosted here on Friday.
The total budget allocation comprises Rp15.49 trillion (US$1.03 billion) for the General Election Commission (KPU), Rp6.91 trillion (US$463.3 million) for the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and Rp2.61 trillion (US$175 million) for other institutions.
According to Minister Indrawati, 18 national political parties and six Aceh local parties will participate in the 2024 general elections.
It is expected that everyone will compete by offering a vision of a better Indonesia with better management and regulations for the people, she said.
The general elections are a manifestation of democracy, which has been endorsed by Indonesia. Hence, the differences within the nation must be managed through proper democracy that is nurtured by everyone, she said.
This year is a political year for Indonesia, and this means that it should serve as an opportunity to improve democracy and reinforce unity.
"Because this is our own country. The greatness and the insignificance, the rise and the fall, the destruction and the development, depends on us. Never blame others. Look at ourselves. Improve ourselves," the minister said.
She further said she believes that in the coming general elections, everyone will want to maintain unity and togetherness in political affairs in order to develop Indonesia, and not the other way round.
