"Because this is seasonal transition, there are many communicable diseases," she told ANTARA here Sunday.
This vigilance is especially important during this COVID-19 pandemic era, in which the people's immunity against the coronavirus disease may have been strong, but the people's immunity against flu and other communicable diseases may be weak, she added.
During the transition period, humidity becomes the main factor that causes immunity to decline. Thus various types of bacteria and virus causing diseases can easily enter the body.
To this end, there are two actions that can be done, namely preventing disease and preventing complication or death.
The disease prevention means that people do their utmost prevention efforts such as applying healthy life pattern, including maintaining personal hygiene and environment, paying attention to what they eat and drink, and diligently wearing a mask.
"If you do not have respiratory disease, that means you have digestive disease. That means the infection occurs through hand, droplet and air," she remarked.
When it comes to nutritional intake, Salama recommends increasing consumption of fruit and vegetable.
In addition to sticking to breakfast, lunch and dinner, she also suggested that consuming fruit be also important during snack time.
She also suggests that Jakartans apply a healthy lifestyle principle called CERDIK -- doing routine health examination, getting rid of cigarette smoke, having diligent exercise, balanced diet, and seven to eight hours of rest per day, as well as managing stress.
Meanwhile, preventing complication or death involves an early detection and awareness of of body condition. If the disease symptoms fail to get recovered, Salama urged the residents to consult doctors, and drink the prescribed medication.
