Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Manpower Ministry, during a discussion on Tuesday, urged the industry sector to prioritize Work Safety and Health (K3) to ensure standardization and help realize the people's prosperity.

The K3 covers workers' needs and rights that companies should meet, ministry official Gerry Aditya noted during the "Ensuring Business Sustainability through Work Safety Optimization" discussion.

"Without concern for penalty, K3 culture should have become a necessity for the industry," he remarked.

Work safety and health are necessary for workers so that they receive protection in the work environment.

Work safety and health are also intended to reduce loss due to work accidents by the management while also creating a healthy, safe, and productive workplace.

Moreover, implementing procedures related to work and health safety is one of the requirements in global trade.

According to Aditya, companies that neglect their workers' safety factor are considered to have violated human rights

"In addition to regulation, K3 also encompasses the humanitarian aspect. This has become a global commitment," he said.

Implementing work safety and healthy culture across all regions in Indonesia poses a challenge due to differences in human resources and capability.

Thus, activity programs to support the creation of K3 are necessary, such as the provision of safe work equipment, training for operators by an accredited trainer, and a standardized safety system to ensure safety in the workplace.

Moreover, the development of companies' capabilities, in accordance with the Work Safety Competence Standard, and work certification with international standards is also necessary.

The ministry said that awareness on work safety and health culture is a collective responsibility, thus its implementation should be done consistently by all stakeholders.

Economic recovery is currently offering the momentum to reform the business world by prioritizing work safety and health.

"If there are many accidents, then production stops, they cannot do anything. The result is that companies cannot gain income and ended up with losses," he said.
