The yearly report of the Employment Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) has shown an increase in the number of occupational accidents, including disease caused by work, in the past three years, Minister Ida Fauziyah noted at a ceremony held to mark the National OSH Month in Sukabumi, West Java, which was followed online on Thursday.
"The data indicated that the implementation of OSH must receive more attention and become a priority for the world of work in Indonesia," she added.
BPJS Ketenagakerjaan's data has shown that the number of occupational accidents reached 221,740 in 2020. The number increased to 234,370 in 2021 and 265,334 as of November 2022.
Taking note of this, Fauziyah urged more companies to implement the Occupational Safety and Health Management System consistently in accordance with the existing law.
"That way, the culture of OSH will be attached to every individual who participates in the company, and increased work productivity can be realized," she said.
The Ministry of Manpower is observing the National OSH Month 2023 with the theme of “Realizing Decent Work with an OHS Culture to Support Business Continuity in Every Workplace.” National OSH Month is observed every year from January 12 to February 12.
This year, one of the focuses raised by the ministry is the handling of tuberculosis (TB) in the workplace, considering that Indonesia is still ranked second as the country with the highest TB cases in the world, based on the WHO Global Tuberculosis Report 2021.
