The director general of occupational safety and health monitoring at the Manpower Ministry, Haiyani Rumondang, stated that the upkeep of OSH, recognized by law, should be promoted extensively in order to realize more effective adoption by all parties.
Rumondang delivered the statement at the opening of the OSH discussion accessed here on Thursday.
"As per Mrs Manpower Minister's directives to us, occupational safety and health was not an obligation, but actually, a need to complete, achieve productivity that leads to welfare," she affirmed.
She reminded that the fulfillment of wages and social welfare as well as OSH required commitment from everyone, be it employers, workers, and workers' organizations, all of whom were fighting for it.
In May, the ministry awarded 2,004 companies for successfully implementing an OHS Management System. Zero accident awards were also given to 1,742 companies, while 343 companies received awards for HIV/AIDS prevention and control program at the workplace.

A total of 916 companies also received awards for their COVID-19 countermeasures at the workplace.
Everyone, especially employers and employees, were expected to focus more on the issue in future, she stated.
She reminded that work accidents were still rampant, with data from Statistics Indonesia showing 234,370 cases of work accidents in 2021. This figure showed an increase of 5.7 percent as compared to the year before.
"Hence, we must continue to campaign for occupational safety and health management as well as work accident prevention programs or improvement programs, so that work accidents are reduced or even drop to zero. (This is) part of a shared commitment to maintain the continuity of work and business," she concluded.
