Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah issued a circular with an appeal to employers to give workers the opportunity to exercise their right to vote on voting day during the 2024 elections.

"Employers must provide workers with the opportunity to exercise their right to vote," Minister Fauziyah stated.

"If workers have to work on voting day, then employers must arrange working hours, so that workers can still exercise their right to vote," the minister remarked according to a circular quoted here on Wednesday.

This appeal is stated in Circular Letter of the Minister of Manpower Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of Holidays for Workers or Labourers on Voting Days and Dates for General Elections and Elections for Governors, Regents and Mayors, which was signed on January 26.

Through this circular, the minister also reminded that apart from having the right to exercise their voting rights, workers, who have to work on voting day, also have the right to receive wages for overtime work.

"Workers or laborers, who work on the day and date of voting, are entitled to overtime wages and other rights that workers or laborers, who work on official holidays, usually receive in accordance with the provisions," she stated.

Voting day for the 2024 elections to elect presidential and vice presidential candidates as well as legislative members will be held on February 14, 2024.
