To face Society 5.0, Indonesia needs superior and competitive human resources, especially those with digital literacy and skills,
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has continued to push for the development of digital talent to optimize the potential of Society 5.0.

"To face Society 5.0, Indonesia needs superior and competitive human resources, especially those with digital literacy and skills," he said at the 8th Congress of the Indonesian Muslim Student Union (SEMMI) on Thursday.

"Of course, I hope that the younger generation has the literacy skills for digitalization," he added.

The government has prepared a number of programs to encourage increased digital literacy and skills, such as the Pre-Employment Card program and National Digital Literacy Program.

The government has also continued to encourage the younger generation to inculcate an entrepreneurial spirit so that they can establish start-ups to create a variety of digital solutions and innovations for society.

In addition, related ministries and institutions are also providing support to help start-ups overcome problems by launching a number of programs, starting from Beta Schools, the National Movement of 1,000 Digital Start-ups, and Start-up Studio Indonesia, to Hub.id.

"Students must also develop leadership skills. This ability can be grown and honed if the student is always active in student organizations and activity units," said Hartarto.

The value of Indonesia's digital economy in 2022 was estimated to have grown by 22 percent on an annual basis, or US$77 billion.

Through this achievement, Indonesia has become a major player in the ASEAN digital economy, accounting for 40 percent of the total value of digital economy transactions in the region.

"Digital economy investment is growing positively, as indicated by the investment deal value in the first quarter of 2022 of US$3 billion, the second highest value after Singapore," the minister said.

"In 2025, the value of Indonesia's digital economy is estimated to grow twofold to US$130 billion, and will continue to grow to US$220 (billion) to US$360 billion in 2030,” he said.
