Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized his support for the eradication of violence against women and implementation of the sexual violence crime law (TPKS law).

Jokowi underscored the support during a meeting with the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) at the Bogor Presidential Palace, Bogor, West Java, on Monday, according to the statement of the Press, Media, and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat on Monday.

"From this short discussion, the president emphasized his support to ensure the eradication of violence against women, including the implementation of the TPKS law," Komnas Perempuan Chairperson Andy Yentriyani remarked after the meeting.

The president also pushed for a better legal umbrella for female workers, especially women domestic workers, she noted.

At the meeting, the commission also drew attention to several critical situations regarding the eradication of violence against women, including the spike in reports on violence, especially cases related to sexual violence.

"Likewise with the situation of women in conflict and disaster situations, working women, and women prisoners, who are facing (problems related to) the law or face various forms of punishment or other cruel and inhumane treatments," Yentriyani emphasized.

Moreover, President Jokowi and Komnas Perempuan discussed more specific further actions from relevant ministries and institutions related to non-judicial mechanisms in resolving past human rights violations in various national action plans.

The action plans include the national action plan for human rights, the national action plan to tackle extremism that leads to terrorism, and women's conditions against legal views, including the death penalty and various situations of policies that are considered discriminatory in several regions.

"Currently, there is an acceleration to carry out Komnas Perempuan's institutional strength, including to make changes to the presidential regulation both related to the structure of Komnas Perempuan as well as various possibilities to bolster the welfare of the Komnas Perempuan staff," she remarked.

At Monday's meeting, President Jokowi was assisted by State Secretary Minister Pratikno and Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga.
