Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry has outlined six strategies that it will adopt to develop micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the maritime and fisheries sector.

The statement was delivered by Director of Business and Investment at the ministry’s Directorate General of Maritime and Fisheries Product Competitiveness Catur Sarwanto during the third episode of Bincang Bahari (Maritime Discussion) here on Friday.

"The strategy, as for the business aspect, there are funding, production, management, information system, and market access, as well as food and logistics quality and security assurance system," he said.

He further said that the ministry is collaborating with the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) to ease MSME access to funding so that they can expand their business and thrive.

As part of the efforts, the ministry is also providing technical guidance and training on digitization and simple business management to people who are keen on establishing a business in the maritime and fisheries sector, he said.

He said that the guidance is being offered so that people become aware of their business prospects.

"We also offer guidance on business legality, such as in applying for a Single Business Number," he added.

To further support such businesses, the ministry will also provide training on good manufacturing practices (GMP) so that business players can meet the necessary requirements to obtain a certification for running their business, he informed.

It is expected that by obtaining GMP certification, businesses can perform material processing measures that follow standard operating procedures, he noted.

Participants will also receive information on product marketing, Sarwanto informed.

Participants who have completed the next phase of the course will be grouped with other businesses deemed commendable, and they will be promoted through the Proud of Indonesian Products National Initiative (Gernas BBI).

Sarwanto also disclosed that on Monday (March 6, 2023), the ministry will host the "Maritime Affairs and Fisheries MSMEs Thrive Expo” as an initiative to improve the capability of MSME players.
