Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has asked state-owned oil company Pertamina to relocate its fuel terminal to a port owned by government-owned port operator PT Pelindo following a fire outbreak in Plumpang, North Jakarta, on Friday night.

"I hope this fuel terminal can be relocated to a safer location, such as a port owned by Pelindo," he said after visiting residents affected by the fire in South Rawa Badak village, North Jakarta, on Saturday.

The security of the fuel terminal, which is one of the vital objects in the Indonesian capital, must be managed properly, he added.

"We want the fuel terminal area to be better, safer, and able to meet the safety requirement," he said.

After visiting the affected residents, the Vice President assured that their needs would be covered by Pertamina.

"Other needs such as logistics would be gradually sent over by Pertamina. I hope there will not be any problem in the future," he said.

He also assured that in the near future, Pertamina will manage the evacuation posts or shelters set up for the affected residents.

In addition, all dead and injured victims will receive assistance from Pertamina as well, he said.

"I have discussed with State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir regarding the fatalities and injured victims. All of them will be assisted by Pertamina," Amin informed.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) said that as many as 1,085 residents were relocated due to the fire at the Pertamina fuel terminal in Plumpang, North Jakarta, on Friday night.

Based on temporary data received by the Jakarta BPBD, 17 people were reported dead, while 49 people were seriously injured and 2 people were moderately injured in the fire.

The victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, including Koja Hospital, Tugu Hospital, Mulyasari Hospital, Pelabuhan Hospital, and Firdaus Hospital, for medical treatment.
