Jakarta (ANTARA) - State oil and gas firm PT Pertamina said that fuel distribution from Plumpang Integrated Fuel Terminal was resumed after an emergency team extinguished a fire that broke out in a reception pipe of the terminal.

"After the conditions were declared safe, the emergency status was revoked and fuel distribution has resumed at 4 a.m. so that fuel supply is not disrupted," Vice President of Corporate Communications at Pertamina Fadjar Djoko Santoso informed here on Saturday.

He said that Pertamina cooperated with the North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service Unit in handling the situation. The fire was put out in three hours at 10:43 p.m. local time.

After the leak in the reception pipe was reported at 7:33 p.m. and the fire spread to the nearby residential area, Pertamina had immediately declared an emergency status.

Even though the state of emergency has been lifted, Pertamina has still taken anticipatory steps to secure fuel supplies in the Greater Jakarta area and its surroundings by shifting some of the distribution from Plumpang Terminal to Tanjung Gerem, Cikampek, and Ujung Berung Fuel Terminals, Santoso said.

To strengthen fuel supplies, distribution is also being carried out via the sea route from the Balongan and Cilacap Refineries to Tanjung Priok Fuel Terminal.

"This transfer is to ensure that fuel supplies for the community remain fulfilled," he said.

At the same time, Pertamina has distributed logistical assistance at four shelter posts, namely the military regional command post, the Tugu Selatan village head's office, the Rasela Rawa Badak child-friendly integrated public space (RPTRA), and the Rawa Badak Selatan village office.

At least 60 boxes of mineral water, 200 packages of instant meals, 1 thousand snack packages, and hundreds of mattresses, blankets, and masks, have also been distributed.

"Assistance will continue at each post according to the needs of the affected residents," he said.

Pertamina is still collecting data on the victims by cooperating with officials and related parties.

"Pertamina is fully committed to providing the best handling for residents, for the dead victims, injured victims at the hospitals, and evacuees," he said.
