We need to strengthen our skills in regulating the tourists.
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Acting Deputy for Destination and Infrastructure Development at the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry Frans Teguh called on tourism area managers to disseminate information on local wisdom to tourists to avoid misunderstandings and complaints.

"This is about (tourism) destination management. We have to properly run the destination, so that visitors and guests will be able to understand well about the local values that must be upheld and obeyed," he remarked at the Destination Management Forum (DMF) series #4 here on Thursday.

Although tourist visits are needed to boost the community’s economy, tourism area managers should not let them loose without any regard to the local rules, the acting deputy noted.

"We need to strengthen our skills in regulating the tourists. Tourists, both domestic and foreign ones, must also be managed," he stated.

Some 17 foreign tourists were reported to have jointly sent a petition to the South Kuta Sub-district office, Badung District, Bali Province, complaining about the crow of roosters that was audible daily at their place of stay.

"I got the information (about the complaint) yesterday,” Teguh noted.

He explained that it might have been caused by the excessive euphoria of tourists flocking to Bali recently, but since they had no understanding of the local values, they had complaints.

Nonetheless, he urged tourism managers to maintain the reputation and hospitality of their tourism destinations, so their business can run sustainably.

"We have to maintain the reputation of the destinations because there may be ups and downs in running the destinations. There are many destinations that were popular at one time, but later, they are not popular anymore," the acting deputy remarked.

The sustainable development of competitive tourism destinations is deemed crucial by strengthening business networks and increasing the capacity of managerial personnel, he affirmed.

On the occasion, Director for Tourism Destinations at the Borobudur Tourism Authority (BPOB) Agustin Warinangin underscored the importance of synergy for successful development of the tourism ecosystem.

Hence, his side has supported the development of networking and capacity building of the tourism ecosystem, especially with the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry and other super-priority tourism destinations (DPSPs) in Indonesia.
