Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy urged regional governments to expedite data collection on stunting and extreme poverty to support program optimization in each region.

"All districts or cities are expected to have a target to immediately finish the data collection on stunting and extreme poverty," he noted through a statement on Wednesday.

Data collection should be conducted, so that program intervention, currently being undertaken up to the village level, can be more accurate, he explained.

"Especially for extreme poverty data, accuracy is very necessary, so that the program can stay on target," he remarked.

"Regional governments can coordinate with the PMK Ministry concerning the extreme poverty elimination acceleration targeting data," he noted.

He also reminded regional governments to optimize the use of village fund to support the stunting and extreme poverty program.

He also called on the regional governments to collect data on facility and infrastructure requirement that can support the efforts to handle stunting and extreme poverty.

An example of this includes data on which regions need sanitation access, so that they receive special aid and attention from the ministry, he explained.

With this, the stunting and extreme poverty program can be implemented well in accordance with the established target.

"Stunting and extreme poverty are problems that should be handled immediately. Every district and city should play an active role in expediting stunting and extreme poverty handling," he remarked.

The government continues to conduct various strategic efforts to expedite the reduction of stunting. The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia is currently at 21.6 percent based on the Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI).

"Meanwhile, the government is aiming to have the stunting prevalence decrease to 14 percent by 2024," he remarked.

Moreover, the government is aiming to eradicate extreme poverty, from four percent, or 10.86 million people, in 2021 to zero by 2024.
