Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat has called for careful preparations for the discussion of the domestic workers' protection bill (PPRT bill) by the House of Representatives (DPR) and the government.

"It must be continued by the deliberation by the government and the DPR, and of course, with careful preparation to accelerate the birth of the PPRT law in the country," she said in a statement received on Tuesday.

Moerdijat expressed the hope that the government, which has a number of ministries and agencies, will collaborate well during deliberations on the bill.

"(This is) to accelerate the implementation of a better protection system for domestic workers in the country," she added.

According to her, the problem inventory list (DIM) must be prepared carefully so that the deliberations on the bill can run effectively to establish a legal basis for tackling challenges faced by domestic workers.

She also asked DPR members involved in the bill’s deliberations to absorb the inputs given by the community to improve the bill.

The implementation of the PPRT law would require a strong commitment from stakeholders, she added.

"The PPRT law requires the support of all parties, starting from the government at the central and regional levels, the community, to law enforcement officials," she said.

All parties' support for the birth of the PPRT law is needed to encourage the state's presence in humanity, she added.

"Without joint support and commitment in its implementation, the birth of the PPRT law, which is expected to become one of the instruments for the protection of domestic workers, will be in vain," she said.

On Tuesday, the DPR approved the PPRT bill as its initiative bill during the House’s 19th plenary meeting of session period IV of the 2022–2023 session year.
