Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Transportation Ministry offers free ship transportation for this year's Eid al-Fitr exodus for travelers riding motorcycles.

Director of Sea Traffic and Transportation at the ministry Hendri Ginting stated here on Thursday that registration for the free Eid exodus program for motorcyclists is open online until April 5 at https://mudikgratis.dephub.

On-site registration is open until April 16 at the Nusantara Passenger Terminal, Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, and the Cipta Building, the ground floor of the Transportation Ministry building.

Ginting remarked that the exodus flow will start on April 15 and April 17, with the route from Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta to Tanjung Emas Port in Semarang, Central Java.

Meanwhile, the reverse or return flow will be on April 25 and April 28, both from Tanjung Emas to Tanjung Priok.

"The available quota is 2,500 passengers per trip and 1,250 motorcycles per trip, so the total quota (for the free exodus program) is five thousand people and 2,500 motorcycles and the return flow is also five thousand people and 2,500 motorcycles," Ginting remarked.

Ginting noted that the free homecoming trip via sea route for motorcyclists is aimed at improving the road traffic flow and reducing the risks of accidents on road transportation, especially for motorcyclists crossing the northern coast lane (pantura).

Meanwhile, the ministry has forecast an increase in the number of travelers during this year's Eid exodus period.

Based on a survey conducted by the ministry's policy agency, the number of Eid exodus travelers this year can reach 123.8 million, an increase as compared to 85.5 million in 2022.

The ministry expects that the free Eid exodus program can reduce the density of homecoming flow.

“With the predicted increase in travelers this year, we hope that this free exodus program would have a positive impact," Ginting remarked.
