Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has instructed the Traffic Corps to prepare its strategy for securing the flow of travelers during the Eid al-Fitr exodus well in advance.

Based on the Transportation Ministry's estimate, the number of homecoming travelers in 2023 will be higher compared to 2022, with 123 million people expected to travel during the exodus, he said in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday.

"We can imagine what if the traffic scheme that we have prepared is not implemented optimally. Last year, it was predicted that there would be extraordinary traffic jams. Alhamdulillah (Thank God), they could be overcome," he added.

To ensure that this year's exodus runs safely, comfortably, and smoothly, the Polri chief informed that his institution earlier coordinated with the relevant stakeholders and conducted an evaluation of several main routes that travelers usually pass through.

"In essence, either travelers use toll roads or arterial roads, all of them must feel the maximum service, especially from the police," he said.

He also urged the traffic police to keep improving the quality of services to the public.

He said he expected the Traffic Corps to develop electronic ticketing, officially known as Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE), throughout Indonesia.

Furthermore, he urged Traffic Corps officials to take strict action in matters that could endanger road users and the community. When it comes to this, personnel should not hesitate to take decisive action, he stressed.

"We should process (offenses related to endangering traffic) and hopefully, it will have an impact. With the law enforcement that we do, the safety of road users and most importantly, compliance, will be better, while the number of traffic accidents will decline," Prabowo said.
