Penajam, East Kalimantan (ANTARA) - At least 16 thousand workers will be sent to accelerate the construction of the new national capital in Sepaku sub-district, North Penajam Paser district, the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority has said.

The workers will arrive in Sepaku soon to support the development of IKN Nusantara, Deputy of Social, Culture, and Community Development at the IKN Authority, Alimuddin, informed here on Tuesday.

The arrival of 16 thousand workers has the potential to give rise to social insecurity or problems in the community that must be anticipated as early as possible, he added.

As most of the workers are men, it is feared that certain individuals may take advantage of the situation, for instance, by establishing massage places that could disturb local social norms, he explained.

"There can be certain parties who use it for negative things, such as (offering) massage services under the guise of a coffee shop, and other types of actions," Alimuddin said.

He said he was worried that IKN Nusantara, which is planned as a city of civilization with high standards, would be riddled with social problems if anticipatory steps are not taken early.

Immediate solutions need to be found to address the risks of social problems by coordinating with the North Penajam Paser district government, he said.

Coordination is being carried out on conducting routine patrols in the IKN Nusantara development area to mitigate the emergence of social problems.

In addition, his party is seeking the formulation of rules regarding the governance of the workers' settlement and the supervisors managing the workers.

"There is a kind of RTs (neighborhood units) that supervise workers, health services, and spiritual services that must exist in the workers' settlement," Alimuddin said.

He explained that some developments at IKN Nusantara have been on since September 2022 and some since January 2023. The IKN development will continue and will be intensified in 2024.
