Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government has allocated a budget of Rp3.27 billion (around US$217 thousand) for the free Eid al-Fitr exodus transportation program for 19,280 residents.

"The budgeting for Jakarta's free exodus and return flow for Eid al-Fitr this year has been carried out based on the compliance principle, which has received approval from the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD)," head of the Jakarta Transportation Office Syafrin Liputo said here on Wednesday.

The budget of Rp3.27 billion will be used to organize preparations for the homecoming and return flow, information sessions in the five administration areas, and six on-the-spot registration sites.

The budget will also cover tariffs for the exodus flow, the return flow, bus arrival duties, and trucks' duties during the return flow.

Liputo dismissed allegations that the free transportation program is only ceremonial.

"In its implementation, (the program) covers a series of activities," he said.

Meanwhile, the budget for the program will also cover the creation of the registration website (Mudik Gratis), health checks on drivers, and liaison officers on each bus.

In addition, there will be officers who will help carry motorcycles to freight trucks during the homecoming and return flows.

The provincial government has prepared a total of 482 buses for the Eid free homecoming trip that will start on April 17, 2023, and for the return flow on April 28.

The province's transportation office has also prepared a total of 23 trucks that can carry 690 motorcycles.

The free exodus transportation program will accommodate a total of 19,280 travelers to 19 cities/districts in 6 provinces.

For the homecoming flow, 278 buses with a capacity of 11,120 passengers will be prepared. Meanwhile, 204 buses with a capacity of 8,160 passengers will be readied for the return flow.

During the trip, participants will be given free fast-breaking meals (takjil) by the bus liaison officers.
